This four-week, 100% online certificate course provides students with a practical, real-world introduction to sea turtle biology, conservation, and research methods, with a special focus on applied conservation strategies used in active field programs.

Students will explore the biology and life cycles of sea turtles, major threats facing populations worldwide, and the tools researchers use to monitor, protect, and conserve these species. We will explore both the hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) and loggerhead (Caretta caretta) sea turtles, and their participation in head-start conservation programs and their role in species recovery.

Through case studies, applied assignments, and real conservation examples — including a head-start program in Colombia — students gain insight into how sea turtle conservation projects are designed, evaluated, and implemented in the field. Ethical considerations, data collection methods, and career pathways in sea turtle research and conservation are also addressed.
